A LITTLE TOO KOSHER. SIMILARITIES IN CONTEMPORARY TRENDS AND RELIGIOUS DRESS.

As a follow on from my must haves for the northern hemisphere winter I wanted to talk about a particular style/look that is occurring over here which has me thinking. Recently I was in Williamsburg with some friends having some dinner and for all of you who may not be aware Williamsburg has a large Hasidic Jewish community. On this day I was wearing a pleated long maxi skirt, a shirt and my Bec and Bridge Akubra and I couldn't help but notice that I resembled a member of this community all I was missing was a wig. This was not my intention, neither is it to offend so I will tread lightly here. This outfit was not only being worn by yours truly but I spotted many a young girls similarly dressed. This posed the question to me how do you wear these trends without looking like you are a member of a hyper conservative religion? Maybe it is a little too 90s revival? Or maybe designers were in fact looking at these groups when styling their collections? Either way I thought it was more interesting to witness this stylistic affiliation.
